My Best Friend

There are many times that I see posts that show off cameras as if they were prized possessions. Like a racing horse or fine car. I have one I'd like to brag about and it is my Minolta SRT101. I have used this same camera since I was around 10 years old. I am 58 now. It is no race horse, more likely a good work horse instead.

It was my dad's camera - the family camera. Which my father used to capture special moments that happened to our family. When I started taking more photographs, he gave me permission to put up the old plastic cube (Brownie) I was using and start learning how to focus, use an aperture, shutter speed, etc.

For my family, it became a trusted and reliable friend. It captured weddings, countless Christmas and holiday get-togethers, birthdays, and all that happens in between. It became like an appendage to me. Going wherever I went, whether it was a canoe trip or circus show. Today, my dad is gone along with many of the family members that were photographed by this camera. It stopped working last year and after doing some research, I found a reliable repair facility that got it back up to its original glory again. Now, I am taking it with me, enjoying the ride and remembering my family and my dad with every click of the shutter.
